Teacher's Notes for January

Welcome back! I hope you all had a nice holiday. Time to get back into good practicing habits and start thinking about Federation. Federation will be held on Saturday, March 27th this year, so this month, we will decide on our pieces. Applications are due by the end of the month, along with the entry fee, which has increased by $2 this year, for a total of $12. It would be helpful if you could include the entry fee with your tuition payment this month, otherwise, I will need it by the last lesson of the month.

There are duet, trio, and quartet divisions also available. Let me know if you would like to participate. I have a couple students interested in participating in the duet division that need partners. Many of you will receive your first gold cup this year, so this will be an exciting Federation Festival!

Group lessons will be held on Tuesday, January 19, and Wednesday, January 20 this month, from 4:00-5:00 pm--please note the change! Our composer of the month will be Johann Sebastian Bach. Try to listen to something by Bach this month--look him up on youtube, or check out some recordings at the library. All of you at this point have played something by Bach, so go through your Suzuki music and tell me which pieces that he wrote. We'll play a little review game at group lesson.

Do you have an old "My Goals for Violin" sheet from last year? Bring it in, and let's review how you did. We'll also fill out another one for this year. January is a great time to make practice goals.
