Teacher's Notes for February

Again we find ourselves in the midst of preparation for Federation! I have sent in all of the registration forms, so we are ready to go. Let's plan on doing some hard work this month getting those pieces ready: notes and bowings perfectly learned, pieces perfectly memorized, posture improved (there's always something that can be improved with posture), so next month we can work on polishing our Federation pieces. Make it a goal to practice six days a week and listen to your Federation pieces every single day. Put on a rectial for your family or friends once a week. This is a critical month for practicing!

Celebration VIII is coming up on October 15, and will be held in the LDS Conference Center in Salt Lake City. For those of you who participated in it last time around, you know what a great experience it was! I highly recommend participating in this awesome concert. If you want to do it, you must be a member of SAU, which is $25/family, and pay a Celebration concert fee of $35. The registration is due March 31, so let me know soon if you would like to participate. Violins will be playing Twinkle Variation A, O Come Little Children plus duet, Handel's Bourree plus duet, and Vivaldi's Concerto in A minor, 1st movement.

We are working on memorizing all of the major and minor key signatures. Memorize all of them and get a prize! It would be helpful if you made or purchased key signature flashcards to help your student memorize these. They can be purchased online or at any music store, but make sure that the flashcards contain all of the key signatures. I've seen a few that only have 6. The keys we are currently working on are C major/A minor, D major/B minor, and G major/E minor.

Group Lessons will be held on February 16 and 17 this month. I have had a few parents request that we change the time from 4:00 to 4:30. Will you please give me your input via email or in our lesson if this would work for you? We'll go with the majority vote. Thanks!
